Changing the PoE Priority Settings on the MikroTik switch

On PoE you have the possibility of priority setting. Why do we need to use the priority? Well think that you don’t have enough power to all connected devices, then the switch will work on the priority and the port which has a higher priority will be carrying the power to the received powered device before other ports.

Think if you have a switch of 48 ports that provide PoE on all the ports. And on all its ports you have IP cameras connected to it. You can specify on each port the priority. The priority can go from 0 to 100 where 0 is the best and 99 is the least. This way in case you don’t have enough power, the ports which have a higher priority will carry power to the IP camera and the others will not.
